There are many ways of communicating and language happens to be one of them. There are also different kinds of languages. There is body language, spoken, written and the artistic form which is pictures. They say a single picture can speak a thousand words which are actually true. You can be able to tell a lot just by looking at a picture of something or someone. The article touches on Learning language conventions picture book.

At this point, most of us have learned about language convention. We already know how to use it in spoken word and written information. Convention can also be used in visual communication. It is brought out by emotion, mood and ideas sometimes. Picture books are good for children between 1-13 years of age. They learn interpretation at a young age.

Pictures can result from combining various lines or blocks of different colors. The color used in a picture also tells a lot. A dim picture may represent low key emotion while brightly colored pictures may suggest a lot of joy. Using border lines suggest dynamic feelings while shading brings out a sense of calmness and gentleness.

After you teach the various kinds of conventions to look out for. You should encourage the students to study more picture books. With more experience, they can be able to tell almost everything the artist is trying to say in the picture. After a while, the students can also be able to use convention to send messages across and put various emotions.

Narratives can be in the form of films, pictures or even novels. In all three, the story has three parts. The first is where the conflict is concocted. The conflict is the beginning of the story, and along the way, there is the second part which is the complications. This can be observed in picture books when the problem that was encountered seems to be growing bigger. The last part is the climax in which the problem is finally solved.

Just like in novels and films, symbolism can be expressed in a pictorial book. The presence of the sun and even the clear sky might seem to suggest happiness or hope. The appearance of dullness and gloomy weather may suggest a bad, day or occurrence of unpleasant effects in that particular scene or in the one that follows.

A picture book can be presented in a set of collages. A film, on the other hand, can be portrayed on flash backs of situation that is not in the main plot. The way the book is organized, and the style it is presented in goes a long way into how the audience id is going to interpret the story. So the convictions should be applied effectively.

The setting on which the picture book is based also tells a lot. For example, if a person wearing animal skin and had unkempt hair were to appear, you can tell just by looking that the setting is of a very long time ago. If the picture, however, includes a series of space ships or robot-like figures you can tell the message is based in the future.
