Issues On Mold Indoor Air Quality

By Frances Howard

Molds are already part of the environment. They can be found everywhere, it maybe indoors or outdoors. These can often be found in wet areas like sinks, bathroom curtains, and floors. So, to control the growth of molds, you should be able to control moisture.

Too much exposure of these may cause you to have skin, eyes, nose, lungs, and throat irritations. Mold indoor air quality problems are common causes of most health problems. These are slimmy black green organism that are usually found in roofs and walls. These are some species of mold which are uncommon and it produces toxic spores, this is according to some investigations.

The only solution to some environmental problems is fresh air, but with molds, it has to be removed. Even dead, still it releases some spores in the air. There are molds that can be harmless, but most of it are toxic. Tests are already been conducted for the assessment of some potential risks due to exposure, but still have few documentation and regulations.

Many have said that most people nowadays are more sensitive as compared before, like years ago. This is because the materials used in most buildings today are highly exposed to molds due to the low nitrogen and high cellulose it contains. These two contents are targets of spores when there is moisture. Materials that easily gets wet must be dried quickly because it is considered to have a higher humidity.

Inhaling and touching, especially when you are too sensitive to this, causes you to have allergic reactions such as red eyes, skin rashes, sneezing, and runny nose. Shortness of breath can be one serious and severe allergy caused by this. Asthmatic people are common to experiencing asthma attacks which is also caused by this. Diseases of lungs, cancers, and other infections are so sensitive to this, and also the children, infants, and older people.

It is very impossible to get rid of spores indoors. Spores will not grow if moisture is not present. This can only be prevented by controlling the moisture indoors. If there is mold growth in your home, you must always clean up and fix some water problems. If you do not fix the water problem, it would be more possible for the mold to come back.

Water leaks and water spills cannot be avoided. So if this happens, dry it up directly. It must be dried up before 48 hours to help prevent the spores to grow. Roof gutters should be cleaned and should be regularly repaired. Drip pans in air conditions must be cleaned and make sure that water is flowing properly in the drain lines.

Indoor humidity should be below 60 percent, ideally between 30 and 50 percent. If you see any condensation on windows, walls, or pipes, dry the wet surface immediately to reduce the moisture. Condensation can be a sign of high humidity.

Biocides or pesticides helps destroy living organisms. Cleaning up using chlorine bleach is really not recommended. Mixture of chlorine bleach and biocides can produce toxic fumes, so do not ever do this. Proper ventilation and exhaustion of air outdoors should be done.
