How One Can Prevent Cyberbullying

By Maria Roberts

Back in the day, children were exposed to a lot of bullying. However, these days with the advancement of technology one is able to see that cyberbullying has more of an impact on their lives. This can sometimes be more harmful to them on an emotional level. It is not always evident because the physical signs are not present.

This is where the problem drags on and their emotions will persist for years if they don't deal with them. They will find that they lose confidence and they will battle with self esteem. As an adult they will often struggle with relationships personally as well as professionally. This can be a big problem for them. This is why parents must know more about this sort of thing.

The saying goes that sticks and stones will break my bones, but words can't harm me. This is simply not true and there is proof to show this. When kids are exposed to this type of torture, their grades start to slip and they begin to withdraw. They may turn to drugs and alcohol as a source of comfort. They will also lose interest in activities that they enjoyed.

Parents should notice a change in their child's behavior. They will become withdrawn and isolated. They may not want to socialize. They will worry and become anxious. When the problem continues and becomes worse they may want to turn to drinking because this will give them comfort. Going to school everyday will cause them to become anxious and not something that they enjoy.

This is why one needs to know how to take action. Parents need to find a professional person who know how to deal with this. Often a psychologist who is specialized with bullying will be able to help in the best way possible. Once they work on the practical aspects, they will help the child build confidence and self esteem, which is important in life.

Those who have been affected, need to stay away from any form of technology. It can become worse should the child respond. It can also be more training and mentally taxing for someone when they allow themselves to keep on reading texts and social media posts. This is where rumors are spreads. It is easy for others to impersonate the victim. Getting help as soon as possible is important.

They will work with them in a practical way in overcoming the problem. They may need to change schools and deactivating all social media accounts. They will also help them build their confidence. The sooner they do this, the better because it will be difficult to go through life when you have a low self esteem. This can affect other relationships.

Children should also take a break from the internet and social media. They should not respond to anything because this is where the problem becomes worse. They will feel frustrated because they are not getting anywhere. One may even have to deal with authorities, such as the police when you can't get rid of a bully who is persistent.
